29. Avoid ingesting gasoline when siphoning gasoline

The need to transfer gasoline from one container to another is always a bit dangerous but starting the flow through a siphon by sucking on a tube is adding another preventable risk to the whole process. The mouthful, if swallowed, tastes poorly, and the vapors of the swallowed hydrocarbon are continually breathed into your lungs which shortly become inflamed and suffer from the chemical assault. This happens often enough and with such unpleasant results that a variety of well working gadgets are available to replace the efforts of sucking the tube.
