37. Responsibility to show up and work

Medicine in the service industry, licensed by the state, usually does not have a very deep bench. It is too hard to replace you and what you do is needed by patients. This fact and the developed and perhaps intrinsic responsibility of the practitioner keeps you working even when you feel ill, are tired or have something more interesting to do. The can-do attitude prevails and is something that I believe is taught to most of the children of practitioners.
